Bhutan Tour December 8-12, 2008
Dear Fellow Travelers,
I just came back from a five days tour through Bhutan, organised by Wind Horse Tours. It was one of the best experiences I’ve made in the past twenty years of traveling in Asia which I have mostly done alone without any organised tours or guides. I can only recommend Bhutan as a destination and Wind Horse Tours as operator. The company provided me a guide who was so well informed about virtually every instance in Bhutan’s history and each feature of Buddhism and at the same time well accustomed to the needs of Western travelers. Even the exhausting five hour hike to the Tiger’s Nest in Paro was always interesting and entertaining. For my taste less important aspects of the tour like accommodation and food were also perfect. The hotels were very comfortable and the three daily meals a delight.
Many travelers argue that Bhutan’s daily fees are too expensive for a visit. I think they are certainly a good instrument to keep the country protected from tourism as you find it for example in Bangkok’s Khao San Road. Bhutan is worth every penny.
