Institute of Cottage Industry
Also known as the Directorate of Handloom and Handicrafts was established during the time of the Chogyals of Sikkim to promote the ethnic art and craft of Sikkim. The main emporium is located at a short distance from the centre, it has a museum that show cases many art works and items produced by the local artists and artisan, items including scroll painting, carpets, handlooms, traditional handcrafts, furniture, wooden carved objects, embroidered products are kept for sale in the emporium.

The Directorate of Handicrafts and Handlooms was established in the year 1957 by the Chogyal of SIkkim with the purpose of promoting and preserving the fine tradtional arts and crafts of Sikkim It is a storehouse of hand-woven woolen carpets with traditional motifs, blankets,shawls and exquisitely carved `Choktse' or table and many other gifts items. Shoppers will find the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handlooms a most convinient place to catch up on their Souvenir hunting.
