Mudumalai

Mudumalai wild life sanctuary, created in 1940 is one of the biggest & first wild life sanctuaries in South India. It lies in the westernmost part of Tamilnadu state, bordering Karnataka & Kerala. Originally sizing with 60 sq kms, the park is now 320sq kms. The terrain is extremely varied with hills, valleys, ravines, watercourses and swamps. The flora & fauna includes various types of forest such as tropical moist deciduous, tropical dry deciduous and southern tropical thorn. Its also the best place to sight best of wild life that includes Asian Elephants , samber deer, Spotted deer, Bison, Wild boar (Sus scrofa) , Gray langur (Semnopithecus priam) , Bonnet Macaque (Macaca radiata), Tiger (Panthera tigris), Leopards, Jackals (Canis aureus) and the Sloth bear (Melursus ursinus). There is a regular short elephant safari organized by the forest department. The best way to enjoy game in park is by foot or jeep.
