Art Gallery in Kathmandu
Siddhartha Art Gallery was established in 1987 by Sangeeta Thapa and Shashikala Tiwari a renowned Nepali artist. It was established with the intention of providing a platform to native Nepalese artist to display their works. Over the past years Siddharth Art Gallery has been active in promoting contemporary Nepalese art and has been trying its best to introduce international position in Nepalese art. It is the best place to be for art lovers and for those who wish to know and understand the history and evolution of Nepalese art.
Over the past years more than 315 exhibitions have been organized at the gallery, these included art created by artists from several countries. Some exhibition at the gallery have been land mark events: like the retrospective exhibitions by the late Amar Chitrakar, Karna Narsingh Rana, Shashikala Tiwari, Ragini Upadhya-Grela, Uttam Nepali, Shashi Shah and the lateTej Bahadur Chitrakar. The Siddhartha launched ‘Celebrating Line’, the first ever exhibition of drawings in the capital. A powerful anti-conflict exhibition by the eminent artist from Pokhara, Durga Baral and an exhibition by the celebrated Mumbai based artist Laxman Shreshta. The Gallery has also organized exhibitions of Nepali artists in London, India and in Pakistan.
