Barkhor
Barkhor is an area of narrow streets and a public square located around Jokhang Temple in the old part of Lhasa. Barkhor Square is a large clearing in front of the temple, with little stalls, shops and restaurants, dominated by large prayer flags. Close to the temple, there is a constant stream of Tibetans following the Barkor circumambulation route in clockwise direction, around the Jorkhang temple.There are also several small, fascinating temples to pop into en-route. This sacred pilgrim path, is also a marketplace where shaggy nomads, traders, robed monks and chanting pilgrims join together.
