Here our Yak drivers change and we now have to get the horses (mules). Yaks cannot walk all the way to the road because of the low altitude. Well used trail follows the Nikka Chhu river through thick, lush forest that is cool and pleasant. We emerge into bamboo thickets and patchwork hillsides of crops and houses of the Sephu village. It takes us a little longer than we think to finally descend to the roadhead, which has a small collection of shops. We bid farewell to our some of our crew and drive to one of the nearby towns: Trongsa is around 1 ½ hr. drive. Gangtey in Phobjikha valley is around 2hr drive and Punakha or Wangdiphodrang is around 3hrs drive.
