Pashupatinath Temple || The holiest Hindu Temple of Nepal.
The Pashupatinath Temple is the largest Hindu temple and is considered to be the holiest of all Hindu Temples. It is located on the banks of the sacred Bagmati river on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu. Pashupatinath temple complex is spread over 0.64 hectares of land and includes 518 temples and monuments. The age of the temple is not certain; legend indicates that the temple came into existence long before the Christian Era began.
The main temple is designed in pagoda style, located in a fortified courtyard and guarded by Nepalese army and semi military Nepali police. The main pagoda include carved wooden rafters, cubic sculptures, with two-level roofs covered with copper and gold sheets. Four main doors to the pagoda are covered with silver sheets, while the pinnacle is gold. The temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, the main idol is a stone deity with four faces representing Shiva's various aspects. Every year millions of Hindu pilgrims from all over the world visit this temple.
