Rangjung || Rangjung Woesel Choeling Monastery
Rangjung Woesel Choeling Monastery, located in Eastern Bhutan's Trashigang district, was founded in 1989 by His Eminence Dungsey Garab Dorje Rinpoche. Initially starting with a few monks and nuns, the monastery focuses on promoting the Dudjom New Treasure Lineage of Buddhism and supporting the Buddhist community locally and abroad. The monastery has since grown, with branches and retreat centers.
Rinpoche's work in the monastery began while he was still studying in India. Despite early financial challenges and limited resources, the monastery gradually expanded with help from donors. In 1993, a separate nunnery was established in Radhi due to the increasing number of nuns. Today, over 300 monks and nuns study at the monastery, though Rinpoche has limited admissions due to space and resource constraints. The local community is religious but poor, often relying on the monastery for their children’s education, as they cannot afford to send them abroad for monastic training.
