The drive from Punakha to Jakar (Bumthang) is a scenic journey through the heart of Bhutan. As you travel, the road ascends to Pelela Pass, winding through temperate lush forests and then transitioning to alpine mountain roads, before reaching Trongsa, covering a distance of 133 km. After passing through the Trongsa township, the road continues and climbs to another pass, known as Yotongla Pass, before finally descending into the open, wide valley of Bumthang, covering a distance of 67 km. The drive usually takes several hours, but the breathtaking landscapes and serene surroundings make the journey truly unforgettable.
