Semtokha Dzong
Semtokha Dzong, one of Bhutan's oldest fortresses near Thimphu, was constructed in 1629 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the nation's unifier. This historic site, renowned for its remarkable architecture featuring intricate woodwork and vibrant murals, served as a military stronghold and administrative hub. Additionally, it housed Bhutan's inaugural monastic school, where monks are educated in Buddhist teachings.
