Thampe Tsho to Maurothang || Thampe Tsho to Maurothang (Lunana Trek)
Approx. 14km, 5 hours / 280m ascent, 1020m descent
Climb steeply to Thampe La at 4600m, where you may see blue sheep high on the slopes above the trail. Descend to Om Tsho, a sacred lake, where Pema Lingpa is said to discovered several religious relic. Follow the shore of the lake and cross its outlet and descend steeply past a waterfall to a smaller lake. After second lake descend steeply to the headwaters of the Nikka. The path levels out, following the left bank of the Nikka Chhu until we reach its confluence with another tributary coming from the east. Cross a bridge to right side and follow the broad path through mixed forest to Maurothang (3610m), a large clearing on the banks of the river beside a few yak herders' huts.
